FORMIC ACID (FORMYL-D) - Introduction
formic-D acid(formic-D acid) is an isotopically labeled compound with the formula HCOOD. It is compared to formic acid (HCOOH), which is commonly found in nature, in which one hydrogen atom is replaced by deuterium (D), enabling it to be used for isotope labeling studies and to track the metabolism of compounds in living organisms.
The properties of formic-D acid are similar to ordinary formic acid. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor and is soluble in water and many organic solvents. It is a strong acid that reacts with a base to form the corresponding formate. formic-D acid can also undergo an oxidation reaction, reacting with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water.
formic-D acid is widely used in isotope labeling chemistry research, especially in the study of in vivo metabolism, pharmacokinetics and food digestion. It can be used as a tracer to track and detect the transport, transformation and excretion of compounds in the human body.
